Cliff Curtis will co-star in the Avatar sequels with Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.

James Cameron’s long-long-long-awaited sequels to his 2009 hit Avatar are finally nearing the production stages, which means casting announcements are beginning to trickle out.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that New Zealand actor Cliff Curtis, who plays Travis Manawa in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and has appeared in movies like The Last Airbender, 10,000 BC and Live Free or Die Hard, is joining the cast in a lead role.

The character will be one of the Na’vi, named Tonowari, and is leader of the Metkayina reef people clan.

James Cameron will film all four sequels back-to-back, intending them to serve as standalone but combine to form a saga. Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana and Sigourney Weaver are set to reprise their roles from the original film.
