With just over a week to go until Fear The Walking Dead makes a splash at San Diego Comic-Con, the show is taking its promo train to the beach.

A new poster for Fear The Walking Dead — the first key-art that we’ve seen for The Walking Dead spin-off series — depicts what appears to be the pier in Santa Monica, California. The poster uses the tagline “fear begins here” and appears to have been made specifically for San Diego Comic-Con (note the URL at the bottom).

Notably, the footprints in the sand show one of the two feet dragging as the “human” walks, so presumably these steps were left by a zombie who’s looking to take a ride on the pier’s ferris wheel.

The “Fear Begins Here” tagline is referencing the fact that the new companion series begins before the outbreak. As previously reported, we’ll be seeing the characters experience the infection as it begins. This horrific nightmare is something we didn’t see in the original Walking Dead series. In a couple of teaser trailers released over the past week, the lead characters are in a state of shock and denial as the mysterious illness begins taking over the City of Angels.

It looks like the show will be going far beyond Los Angeles proper. Judging by this poster, the series will follow the characters (and walkers) down to the beaches too. Fear The Walking Dead is clearly a long way from The Walking Dead’s woody suburbs setting up and down the east coast!

The new show’s entire cast and crew will be at San Diego Comic-Con next week to share new information and probably a significant trailer. We’ll be sure to bring you more details as they’re released!

Fear The Walking Dead premieres in August on AMC.
