With only two episodes of Fear the Walking Dead remaining, we’re hoping the series gets back to the excitement we originally tuned in for.

Last week’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead felt slow compared to the first three episodes. There were no “live” walkers, there was no big action, and there was little to be afraid of.

Episode 4 was a stark departure from the first half of the season. The show quickly went from focusing on the walkers to focusing on the interpersonal relationships, including the introduction of the military. What’s more, everyone was surprisingly at peace with the fact that an apocalypse just occurred.

It’ll be interesting to see how the pacing of the show changes in episode 5, titled “Cobalt,” the penultimate episode of the season. Will they pick things up as they gear up for the season finale? Or will things remain slow (and walker-less)?

Luckily the action picked up at the end of the episode when several family members were carted off to the hospital against their will. Madison’s son Nick, a new character named Doug, and Daniel’s wife Griselda were all sent outside of the fence to receive treatment, but only one of them (Griselda) really needed to go. The sudden “arrest” of Nick was a particularly tense moment because it sealed Madison and Liza’s hatred for one another.

A synopsis for tonight’s episode indicates the military will continue to have a strong presence over the safe zone. “The National Guard’s plan for the neighborhood and its residents is revealed, forcing Travis and Madison to make a difficult decision,” says AMC.

Could this “difficult decision” be leaving their safe zone? We hope so, because things have become too ordinary within the fence.

Fear the Walking Dead episode 5 airs Sunday, September 27 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC. Next week is the season finale, and the week after that is the season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead.
