The Fault in Our Stars finally has a paperback release date: April 8, 2014. We also have a first look at the covers.

Two versions of the paperback will be printed. One will be “similar to the hardcover” and one is the movie tie-in. The latter uses the film’s promotional poster featuring Hazel (played by Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) laying on the grass. We’ll share the covers once we obtain images. You can pre-order the standard paperback now on Amazon for $11.07. It’s currently $2 more expensive than the hardback.

Check out the covers for the paperback and movie tie-in below which we received from Penguin Teen:

The publisher says that three million copies will be printed in paperback. Dutton also revealed that seven million hardcover copies are currently in print.

Speaking to USA Today about today’s news, author John Green touched on the film adaptation. “I loved it. It’s a wonderfully faithful adaptation,” he said. The writer spent a lot of time on the Pittsburgh and Amsterdam sets last year.

Green also had a couple things to say about Woodley and Elgort. She “sounds and acts just like Hazel does in my mind” while he is “just so Gus. That’s a hard role. Gus is very confident in many ways, but not entirely.”

The Fault in Our Stars paperback will be released roughly two months before the film’s June 6 theatrical opening. You can see the trailer for the film in our previous report.

Will you pick up ‘TFiOS’ as a paperback?

Sales of the hardcover recently surged on the USA Today and iBooks bestseller lists following the trailer release. As we get closer to the movie’s release date and see more promotional material, more readers will pick up the book. The cheaper price for the paperback will surely interest many.

Thanks, USA Today for the details and our friends at Penguin Teen for the covers.
