The first public screenings of The Fault in Our Stars took place over the weekend, and naturally those around the entertainment industry expressed their feelings on Twitter after getting out of the theater.
Outlets including Hypable were invited to a media/fan screening on Saturday night in New York City. 20th Century Fox smartly mixed the press with fans so that those who aren’t aware of the sensation around John Green could see – and hear – the reactions from fans as they watched the movie.
This writer attended the screening and summed up the audience’s feelings about the movie in one tweet:
I can’t say much about #tfios, but remember the open sobbing in the theater with Deathly Hallows Part 2? Expect that.

Our colleagues around the internet expressed similar feelings:
Just watched @TheFaultMovie and sobbed my eyes out. All in all a wonderful way to spend an evening. #TFIOSnyc

Think every person in the theater cried during THE FAULT IN OUR STARS including me. Fans *loved* it. Going to be a big hit for Fox in June.

THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH TISSUES IN THE WORLD! CAN'T FORM COHERENT THOUGHTS! #TFIOSmovie #TFIOSnyc

Heartbreaking and painful, #TFiOS will break you and make you weep but it will change you for the better. @TheFaultMovie @JoshBooneMovies

And that was perfection. Thank you #TFIOSnyc because I was reminded why I love ya movies and books. Perfection @JoshBooneMovies

Of course, fans who attended the screenings shared similar feelings. Most of the tweets had to do with the amount of time they spent crying in the theater.
Formal reviews of The Fault in Our Stars are embargoed until the day of its theatrical release on June 6.
Shailene Woodley (who plays Hazel), Ansel Elgort (Gus), Nat Wolff (Isaac), and author John Green are in the midst of a nationwide tour across the United States to discuss the film with fans. Over 6,000 turned out for last night’s event in Ohio.
