The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is reportedly being eyed to take on Universal Pictures’ Lestat reboot, which is based on author Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles.

The Wrap reports that Boone is set to write and direct the adaptation, with Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci producing the film.

Universal Pictures acquired the rights to author Anne Rice’s vampire series, which includes Interview with the Vampire, but will focus on the second and third books in the series titled The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.

The title character, Lestat de Lioncourt, was played by actor Tom Cruise in 1994’s adaptation of Interview With the Vampire, which also included a young Brad Pitt. The role should be highly sought after and there are no reports as to who will be playing the role yet.

After Boone’s incredible success with Fault in Our Stars, we imagine this adaptation will become another hit, despite the Twilight era having passed. The source material for the film is solid and with the right actors we think it could make for an interesting film.

News of Universal snapping up the rights to Rice’s Vampire Chronicles was first unveiled on August 8.
