Why was John’s cameo cut?

Things are always lost in the translation between book to film, and The Fault in Ours Stars is no different. But sometimes it is better to know what was cut before you see a film adaptation of a favourite book. That way, you don’t have to spend your first viewing of The Fault in Our Stars cataloguing everything that was missing, and can instead enjoy the film.

The Fault in Our Stars stars Shailene Woodley (Hazel), Ansel Elgort (Gus), Nat Wolff (Isaac) and Willem Dafoe (Peter Van Houten). It is based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, by author John Green. Green filmed a cameo in the film, but it was cut from the final product because “it just didn’t work.” It has been hinted that the cameo will be included in an extended cut on the DVD/Blu-ray.

Public screenings for The Fault in Our Stars began in May, and from these the film has received positive responses from fans and critics alike.
