Fargo premieres tonight on FX with episode 1 titled “The Crocodile’s Dilemma.”

Fargo is a limited TV series adaptation of the film of the same name from Joel and Ethan Coen. The series won’t follow the same exact plot as the modern classic film, but it will have the same feel. It’s currently only set for a one season limited series run, but it has been rumored that FX will continue the series with a new cast and story each year, much like HBO’s True Detective.

The synopsis for episode 1 reads: “A rootless, manipulative man meets a small town insurance salesman and sets him on a path of destruction.”

Apart from that, not a ton is known about the plot of the series. We’ve seen some teases, but the promotion has been been purposefully vague as they obviously don’t want to give too much of the story away. As star Martin Freeman told us in an interview we ran this morning, the story is very well written.

The biggest look we have received to this point was the release of the first seven minutes of the show.

The first seven minutes served as a great tease for the series, and we were very impressed with how they looked. The snappy Coen brothers writing is present with some classic humor, and the setup for Freeman’s Lester Nygaard being unhappy with his wife is there right away. It’s shot beautifully with a great score, and we can’t wait for more.

The cast includes Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Bob Odenkirk, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, Glenn Howerton, Kate Walsh, and Oliver Platt.

Several clips from the show have been released. They don’t show much, but they help to set up what to expect.
