Pottermore has released what can be considered the first report from the Fantastic Beasts movie set.

The website’s new “Pottermore Correspondent” — a nameless person who makes all the blog posts — recently visited the set of the Wizarding World spinoff and offered up a couple of teases concerning what he/she/they saw.

The scene they observed took place during the winter and involved Eddie Redmayne (who plays Newt), Katherine Waterston (Newt’s wife Tina), and Colin Farrell (a character named Graves). The third character was wearing a floor-length coat.

The scene that day was an important one involving a “significant” (magical?) object and intense glares, writes the Pottermore Correspondent:

“Now, I can’t tell you exactly what goes down in this scene. Partly because I have no idea what’s going on and partly because it takes so long to get the perfect shot, we’re sitting there 25 minutes while the same frame is done over and over and over. But I do know this much: it’s a very important moment for Newt (Eddie), Tina (Katherine) and Graves (Colin) in New York. Very important indeed.

“With perfect precision, Katherine Waterston gently places a significant object on the floor. Colin Farrell arches an eyebrow with extreme meaning. Other exquisitely dressed actors act and react to the same gestures until a fragment of the scene is done.”

We’re going to guess that this “significant” object is something with magical properties. After all, this is a movie about the Wizarding World.

Indulge us for a minute by listening to our Pokémon analogies: So this is a “very important moment” for the three characters and it appears to center around an object. Why would Newt, a beast curator, care about a magical object? Could it help him capture creatures? Is it something like a Pokéball that let’s him hold them, or does it let him further study the beasts like a Pokédex?

We’re not sure why else Newt and his wife would care about an object in the story. He isn’t fighting the Dark Lord here…. he’s documenting creatures.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens next November. Yesterday we told you that the film’s production will be moving to Liverpool next week for what is expected to be their only time shooting outside Leavesden Studios.
