Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series producer David Heyman was asked to compare next year’s release to one of the films in the original series, and his answer was the fourth installment.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Heyman explained how David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts will be similar to Goblet of Fire, directed by Mike Newell:

“[Fantastic Beasts has] got the charm of the fourth. It’s like the fourth,” he said. “Mike talked about the fourth as being like an Indian musical — and it’s not that, but it’s got the humor of that film. It has the romantic comedy, that fish-out-of-water humor, that very human, natural character comedy. And now David is always looking for truthful, human moments, it’s never just a gag, he’s grounding [the storytelling moments] in a reality. [Beasts] is very funny, it’s got a big heart, and there’s darkness too.”

I wouldn’t consider the fourth movie (or book) in the Harry Potter series one of my favorites, but these remarks don’t make me any less excited for Fantastic Beasts. I actually have a hard time believing it’ll feel anything like any movie in the Potter series, especially since it’s an entirely different set of characters during a completely different era. The ages of the characters are different too. Oh, and Beasts isn’t set in a school.

At any rate, these comments make me want to re-watch Goblet of Fire.

Fantastic Beasts opens in theaters next November and stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. From what we’ve heard so far, the plot seems to focus on American muggles protesting the presence of wizards in the USA after Newt accidentally lets some beasts out of his whimsical suitcase.

Only one year to go!
