The first trailer for the second film in the Fantastic Beasts film series has finally arrived, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s packed with all-new footage and a very exciting return to Hogwarts!

Watch the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer below:

The trailer opens with gorgeous shots of Hogwarts in the late 1920s, while Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) is still a teacher (some fans are noting that he’s in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom despite being a Transfiguration teacher). Authorities ask him why he’s sent Newt on a mission of some sort to Paris. Dumbledore, with his classic smirk, says that Newt isn’t one to follow directions.

The characters in the foreground appear to apparate onto Hogwarts grounds. Isn’t that impossible? Is it something that Dumbledore added once he became headmaster?

After, the trailer provides glimpses of Tina, Queenie, Jacob (who’s excited to continue tagging along with Newt), Credence, and Grindelwald. Grindy is looking worse for wear after being captured at the end of the first movie.

Will Grindelwald escape again? Yes (see the end of this article), and he’ll be speaking to his followers who appear to turn out in very large groups.

The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer also features a couple shots of a circus. It’s too early to know how this will play into the film, but one theory is that an outcast like Credence might be involved. A circus was actually teased in the first movie.

The end of the trailer holds one of the more epic scenes: Newt and his brother Theseus (who is romantically involved with Newt’s ex-lover) fight (Grindelwald?) together. There’s a cool spell where they push their wands into the ground to create a wall:

And yes, the “Fantastic Beasts” will continue to be a part of this series!

The trailer hints that the characters will have to pick sides. Could one of Newt’s friends team up with Grindelwald? It seems possible — it’d be underwhelming if no one betrayed Newt and Dumbledore.

“I can’t move against Grindelwald,” Dumbledore tells Newt. “It has to be you.” Why?!

A new poster was also released today:

Finally today, LEGO has shared a first look at one of their Fantastic Beasts 2 sets. It’s pretty spoiler-y… it confirms that Grindelwald escapes and it shows how it happens. That’s MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery on the right, and thestrals on the left.

Yesterday, J.K. Rowling and her various Wizarding World arms debuted a new franchise logo. It consists of the wands of nine characters who are most important in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts film series.

The movie opens in theaters this November. Stay tuned for a new episode of MuggleCast on Wednesday, where we’ll share our initial reactions to the trailer!

Editor’s note: Johnny Depp, who co-stars in this film, allegedly beat his ex-wife Amber Heard. These accusations were made by Heard and Depp’s former associates. J.K. Rowling responded to the controversy. Why are we telling you this?
