New reports today reveal the characters who’ll surround Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) in J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and who’ll possibly portray them.

Reporters from Variety and The Wrap revealed this afternoon the actors and actresses who are up for several key roles in the forthcoming Harry Potter spinoff.

– Tina: Described as “grounded.” Testing for this role are Saoirse Ronan (pictured above center), Dakota Fanning (above right), Allison Sudol, and Lili Simmons.

– Queenie: Tina’s older sister and described as a “bombshell.” Testing for this role are Kate Upton (above left), Katherine Waterston and Elizabeth Debicki

– Jacob: Described as Newt’s “rival,” testing for this role are Steve Zisis, Zack Pearlman and Dan Fogler.

All three of the roles are leads opposite Newt. Yes, these details are very basic. They’re worth sharing, however, because we currently have no idea what this story is going to be about or who the characters are. It’s a start!

I speculated on MuggleCast that Jacob, whose name we first learned earlier this year, could be Newt’s lover. So far my theory doesn’t seem to be panning out.

Screen tests opposite Eddie Redmayne are expected to take place over the next week, according to The Wrap.

Fantastic Beasts is set to open in theaters November 2016 under the direction of David Yates and produced by David Heyman. The sequel and threequel (remember, this is going to be “at least” a trilogy) will open in November 2018 and November 2020 respectively.

Seeing stars like Kate Upton, Saoirse Ronan, and Dakota Fanning in lead roles in a Harry Potter spinoff is an exciting prospect.
