Scholastic, Bloomsbury, and Pottermore have pulled the invisibility cloak off the new edition of Fantastic Beasts.

The original Fantastic Beasts book was released way back in 2001, long before J.K. Rowling ever dreamed of putting Newt Scamander into a movie. Look, here’s Dan Radcliffe happily buying the book (and Quidditch Through the Ages) as a baby child:

Now that the book’s title and author is being adapted into a five-part movie series, J.K. Rowling has decided to update the original novella.

In a statement this morning, Pottermore revealed the 2017 edition of Fantastic Beasts “features a new foreword by Newt Scamander, the addition of six new beasts, [and] new line illustrations from Tomislav Tomic that bring many of the beasts roaring to life.”

All of the new writing, including Newt’s forward, was penned by J.K. Rowling.

The U.K. is getting a delightful new cover. It was designed by Olly Moss, who redesigned the covers of the Harry Potter books for Bloomsbury in 2015:

The United States cover is a little less exciting:

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been an approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since its publication,” says Pottermore. “Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations and is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. Scamander’s years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance. Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail. Others will surprise even the most ardent amateur Magizoologist.

“This essential companion to the Harry Potter stories has been revisited by J.K. Rowling, bringing the original classic up to date with new content that reflects the exciting developments in her Wizarding World, with the release of the movie event of 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which was inspired by the original edition of the book.”

The eBook edition of the new Fantastic Beasts will be priced at $6.99. At Amazon, the physical edition is priced 39 cents more.
