This morning Pottermore announced a few new characters for Fantastic Beasts 2, two of which are involved in a “wizarding circus.” What?

Indeed, some sort of “wizarding circus” is coming to town for the Fantastic Beasts sequel, according to an announcement from Pottermore this morning. This isn’t something we’ve heard of in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World before, so it’ll be interesting to see it in action, and even more interesting to see how the show or the characters play a role in the story.

While we still have a year and a half to wait until we get to see the movie in theaters, there’s a bit of a first look today to tide us over: Turns out the film’s art team has already drawn up a circus because it was originally intended for the first Fantastic Beasts movie.

Snitch Seeker says they spoke to MinaLima employees last year who said the below art piece depicting a circus called “Circus Arcanus — Museum of Human Oddities” was designed for the first movie (click it for full size). This is also confirmed by the fact that the art is listed under the Fantastic Beasts section of MinaLima’s site. This print is online because it’s for sale in MinaLima’s online store.

Here are a couple of close glimpses courtesy of MinaLima’s website:

The writing on the artwork aligns with what we’ve heard concerning Newt’s whereabouts in FB 2: The circus is wrapping up a run in New York (so is Newt) before it heads to Europe (where the magizoologist is also heading).

One of the most prominent performers on the poster is “The Enchanting Snake Girl.” Could this be who Claudia Kim is playing, who Pottermore says is a “featured attraction” at the circus? She was one of the actresses cast today.

Since this was created for the first movie, it’s possible that some elements have changed after Rowling pushed it to Fantastic Beasts 2. We’ll just have to wait and see!
