J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World has released a new logo ahead of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
With this new logo, it seems like J.K. Rowling’s film series are really becoming part of one entity, more than ever before. The new logo combines aspects from both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series into one sleek design.
The new logo features the wands of nine characters from J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. The logo begins with the original Harry Potter series, on the left, and moves to the Fantastic Beasts series, on the right.
From left to right, the wands belong to the following characters: Voldemort, Ron, Hermione, Harry, Dumbledore (Elder wand), Newt, Tina, Queenie, Grindelwald.
The logo also features the words “Wizarding World,” with the first W being embellished with the lightning bolt that started it all, very fittingly.

The Elder wand
It seems fitting that both the Elder wand and, consequently, Dumbledore, would be at the center of this logo design. The character of Dumbledore and the story of the Deathly Hallows are definitely the strongest links between the Harry Potter series and Fantastic Beasts.
Even though we obviously know Dumbledore from the original books, he is just as much a part of the world of Fantastic Beasts. As we know, he was highly involved with Grindelwald, first as an ally, then as an adversary.
When you think about it, the Elder wand is really at the pinnacle of both series. The allegiance of the Elder wand was a key component in the final battle between Harry and Voldemort, with the Elder wand’s power helping Harry to deliver the final blow. Similarly, we can assume, based on our knowledge from Philosopher’s Stone, that the conflict with Grindelwald will result in Dumbledore gaining control of the wand from him.
All of this makes the Elder wand the perfect centerpiece for the new Wizarding World logo. Both the wand itself and the character who wields it are pivotal to both Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter.
Voldemort/Grindelwald
The villains of each series reside on either end of the logo. Voldemort’s original wand is featured on the far left, and Grindelwald, the new (even though he’s technically older) villain, has his wand shown on the far right. Not much to say about these guys, except that it’s interesting the villains are so prominently featured in the new logo.
Harry/Newt
Harry and Newt are the central protagonists of their respective stories, so it makes sense that they’re opposite each other, on either side of the Elder wand. However, that might not be the only thing they have in common.
Newt and Harry appear to both be favorite students and confidantes to Dumbledore, but perhaps for different reasons. Dumbledore helps/uses Harry to defeat Voldemort, and from the trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, it looks like Newt serves a similar purpose with respect to Grindelwald.
We know that Harry was “the chosen one” right from the start, so he was kind of picked by Dumbledore by default. We’re not yet sure why Dumbledore chose Newt, other than the fact that he was particularly fond of him. It’s possible that Newt was also predestined in some way, or maybe it was simply his skill, nature and aptitude that earned him Dumbledore’s favor.
Harry’s journey eventually led him to the Elder wand, even though he didn’t necessarily seek it. The fact that both characters reside on either side of it, in the logo, could mean that Newt’s path takes him near the wand as well. We know that Dumbledore ends up with it, but Newt looks to be highly wrapped up in the plan to defeat Grindelwald, so he could come into contact with it at some point.
Hermione/Tina
J.K. Rowling has said that Tina is the Hermione of the Fantastic Beasts series, so keeping that in mind, it makes sense that their wands would feature opposite each other’s. Pottermore’s guide to the wands in the new logo describes Tina as smart, practical and no-nonsense, which definitely describes Miss Granger, as well!
Tina would obviously be featured alongside Newt, as she is his greatest ally in the Fantastic Beasts series (although the argument could certainly be made that Jacob fills that role). What’s interesting is that Hermione’s wand is next to Harry’s, as opposed to Ron’s.
Ron was Harry’s first friend at school, and remains his best friend, to this day. So, if there’s a character who’d be considered Harry’s greatest ally, you’d think it’d be him. However, many fans of the Harry Potter books would argue that Hermione provided infinitely more value than Ron, as part of the trio.
J.K. Rowling has also hinted, in the past, that she believes Harry and Hermione would’ve made a better end game couple. Could she be nodding toward that with this new logo? Honestly, we doubt it, but it’s still fun to speculate.
Ron/Queenie
Last but not least, right next to the villains’ wands, we have Ron Weasley’s wand opposite Queenie’s. Similarly to the villains, there’s not too much to say here, but Ron and Queenie do have some similarities. They both have connections to the greater wizarding world (Ron with his pure blood family, Queenie with her job at MACUSA) that are helpful to the team, and they’re both the more spirited members of their groups.
Jacob
Naturally, Jacob’s wand isn’t included in the new Wizarding World logo…since he doesn’t have one. Unfortunately, this lends itself to the belief that Jacob isn’t part of the core group in the Fantastic Beasts movies!
The new logo paints the picture that Newt, Tina, and Queenie are the new “trio,” while Jacob is on the outs. Is he playing the Neville role? The Ginny role? At least we definitely know, from the new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer, that he’ll be involved in the next movie.
