A video from a movie enthusiast and a new tweet from J.K. Rowling might suggest that Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 is currently filming Hogwarts scenes.

Update (September 11th): Further evidence of Hogwarts / Fantastic Beasts 2 filming taking place at Lacock Abbey has been provided by a Twitter user. She shared a photo of what looks like movie extras in school robes at Lacock over the weekend. In a separate tweet she says filming has wrapped as of Monday, September 11:

A closer look at the students and their robes:

Over two weeks of filming took place at Lacock Abbey (note our story below, dated August 25), suggesting that there’s a substantial number of Hogwarts scenes in Fantastic Beasts 2.

Original story (August 25): Thanks to casting calls, interviews, and some good ol’ fashion theorizing over the past few months, it’s become increasingly clear that Fantastic Beasts 2 will be bringing us back to Hogwarts. Now, it looks like some filming for those scenes is underway.

Last week a YouTube user named Chipper, who describes himself as an “experienced Film and TV artist,” published a video that claims to depict setup for Fantastic Beasts 2 scenes at Lacock Abbey. This is a location used for scenes in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as well as Half-Blood Prince.

Here’s one moment from Half-Blood Prince that was shot at Lacock Abbey. Those were some hard times for Harry ?

Chipper doesn’t offer hard evidence that this film crew setting up in his video is related to Fantastic Beasts 2 (Hypable reached out to Chipper earlier this week but has yet to hear back), but on Friday, J.K. Rowling tweeted a photo from the film’s set. Notice the lighting? She’s clearly in a tent outside.

If you want to dive deeper down the rabbit hole: The emojis she selected could all be subtle nods to Hogwarts: An Owl (Hedwig, the Owlery, etc), a Unicorn (Bane/Centaurs?), a Spider (Aragog/Chamber of Secrets), a Lizard (Newt), and a Snake (a Basilisk).

The timing of the YouTube video depicting Fantastic Beasts 2’s alleged Lacock Abbey setup, coupled with Rowling being in an outdoor location for filming today, makes me think that the production really is shooting Hogwarts scenes right now.

Young versions of Dumbledore and other characters are being cast for the sequel. Newt and Professor Dumbledore will be meeting in this film as plans to battle Grindelwald ramp up. The movie hits theaters November 2018.
