We have two interesting updates concerning Fantastic Beasts today!

First, EW has released new information on who Ezra Miller’s Credence is in J.K. Rowling’s 1920s Wizarding World. It turns out his last name is “Barebone” (lol), and he’s the adopted son of Mary Lou Barebone (giggity) — A woman who’s trying to put together another Salem Witch Trials.

A new (yet tragically low-res) photo was also unveiled today, depicting Graves and Credence:

Colin Farrell’s character, Percival Graves, takes an interest in Credence and seems to take him under his wing. From EW:

Credence is the adopted middle child of Mary Lou Barebone (Samantha Morton). We’re told that he “appears withdrawn, extremely shy and far more vulnerable than his two sisters. Credence is defenseless against the abuse that comes in response to the slightest infraction of Mary Lou’s strict rules. But his loneliness also makes him susceptible to the manipulation of Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), who has taken a personal interest in Credence.” Graves is a powerful guy, an auror and the Director of Magical Security in the American wizarding government.

The report adds that the “New Salem Philanthropic Society” is “a radical organization led by Credence’s mother that wants to expose and kill wizards and witches by bringing about another Salem Witch Trials.”

That sounds quite brutal.

In related news, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Zoe Kravitz — best known for her role in the Divergent series — joined Fantastic Beasts in the middle of the production. Her role is being kept under wraps, but THR says that her “small role” in Fantastic Beasts could expand into a “meatier part in the sequel.”

The first Fantastic Beasts opens this November and stars Eddie Redmayne.
