Eye Candy season 1, episode 3, “HBTU,” just finished airing. Catch up on everything that just happened with our recap!

Eye Candy season 1, episode 3, “HBTU,” opens with Tommy kicking down Reiss’ bedroom door. Lindy is right behind him as they walk into his trashed apartment. Two mannequins sit in front of a TV playing nothing but static. Above them, teeth are hanging on wires from the ceiling.

The teeth turn out to be those of a Jane Doe that Lindy recognizes as Julia Becker. She and Tommy go to her mother’s house to break the news.

Meanwhile, Connor has problems of his own (though only he would probably think they’re as serious as Lindy’s). Page views are down at the site he works for, and he’s singled out to come up with something better. He tells his boss he’s working on something new, and later we see him pull up the pictures of the crime scene photos he snapped at the end of the last episode.

Lindy’s biggest fan has another voice over at this point, saying, “It’s time to know who you are, Lindy. Decide if I’ve found The One.”

Sophia wants to get out of town, but Lindy tells her, “We’re not not having a life because of this freak.” While that’s fine in theory, things start to get real personal when Lindy gets an envelope in the mail with a picture of her and her sister and the cut up pieces of crime scene photos.

Lindy takes the photo to the NYPD, and Sgt. Shaw picks up on the fact that, in the original, Lindy’s sister was wearing a bracelet, but in the replica, she isn’t. Lindy explains the story behind the bracelet she gave her sister, which Sara lost, but says that only her dad would know about it.

Tommy finds the four crimes that match up with the pictures, and each of the victims were mutilated. Different killers are suspected in each case, but all of them were on Flirtual, meaning it was probably Lindy’s stalker. Tommy also finds the only plus side after Lindy realizes the killer dated each of them: “Oh, an equal opportunity serial killer. At least he’s got that going for him.”

George finds the article Connor wrote about the killer. Lindy shows up at his Krav Maga class and totally owns him. Before she can inflict any damage, however, Connor’s boss shows up and says the story will stay online until they can catch the killer.

Back at the office, George discovers the background of the picture from the killer is static, and that’s when Lindy remembers the static that was on the screen in Reiss’ apartment. The two of them break in (“It’s so easy, it terrifies me.”) and look at what was last viewed on Reiss’ TV. They’re all old Italian horror movies, and Lindy discovers that the first letter of each title spells out my perficio.

At the station, Lindy reveals her findings and the fact that she knows why the killer has been targeting these specific people. It’s all about perfection — or lack thereof. Each of the victims hated something about themselves — their teeth, their eyes, their breasts — and that’s what the killer targeted after he dated them and realized they lied about their flaws online.

Jake finds out about the malware on his phone and files a police report, so Tommy pays Lindy a visit…just in time to see her face when she discovers her surprise birthday party that Sophia threw for her.

Tommy is called away when Reiss’ clothes are discovered, but he leaves Detective Yeager in charge of watching Lindy. There’s a little drama when both Jake and Connor show up, and while one is allowed to pass through the door, the other — Sophia’s potential ex-best friend — is “disinvited.”

And that’s when all hell breaks loose. Lindy gets dizzy, probably because her shots were drugged, and Jake leaves to get her some water. Then the fire alarm goes off because some set fire to the garbage in the bathroom. While Sophia and Yeager take care of that, the killer strolls right in and carries Lindy off. Apparently, she passed his test.

Jake is handcuffed by Yeager, and Lindy wakes up in a basement, seeing Reiss killed right in front of her and finding a birthday present by the killer. She escapes, and the next morning she and Tommy look on as Jake is released, finally knowing now that he was set up.

At home, Lindy opens the box, the reward the killer left to her, and finds her sister’s lost bracelet inside.

“Wear your pain,” he says in the voice over. “We should all be reminded of what we’ve lost.”
