Netflix’s Extraction dropped its first photos of Chris Hemsworth as a grizzled black market mercenary who winds up on the path to redemption.

Chris Hemsworth may not have any magic hammers or superpowers in Netflix’s Extraction, but he winds up being somewhat of a superhero anyway.

In Extraction, Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose. Because of his skills and his reputation, he’s solicited to rescue the kidnapped son (played by Rudhraksh Jaiswal) of an imprisoned international crime lord. Rake travels to Dhaka, Bangladesh, to extract the child (hence the name), and over the course of the mission, develops a closeness to the young boy that reawakens a different side to the killer-for-hire and puts him on the road to redemption. In the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.

“He’s come to terms with the fact that his number could be up any second,” Hemsworth said in an interview with USA Today. “The innocence and purity from this young kid reminds him that there’s still more to do on Earth before he departs.”

Extraction will be the directorial debut of Sam Hargrave, though it won’t be the first time that Hargrave has worked with the MCU actor. Prior to directing this film, Hargrave worked as stuntman and stunt coordinator, acting as Chris Evans’ Captain America stunt double in many Marvel films and eventually working his way up to stunt coordinator and second unit director on Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

In fact, though the film isn’t a superhero film in the way that we think of it, it does reunite a fair amount of MCU alum. In addition to Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth, the film was written by Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: The Winter Soldier scribe Joe Russo, who likewise produces alongside his brother and fellow MCU writer/director Anthony Russo.

Extraction will premiere on Netflix on April 24.
