Extant is one of the hottest shows of the summer and it just got hotter by adding Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the cast.

The second season of Extant finds Molly, Halle Berry’s character, dealing with the loss of her husband and fighting to get her son back. Molly is introduced to JD, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who thinks she is a little bit crazy even as the sparks fly between them.

At the Extant panel at San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Craig Shapiro discussed the new season, saying “It’s sexy with a mystery right out of the box that continues through the season. We asked how we could give this season a pop and fizz,” (here Jeffrey Dean Morgan raised his hand), “and we found it. The chemistry between the two of them just explodes off the screen.” “Finally,” Halle Berry interjected, “a man who wants to kiss me! Last year’s husband didn’t want to touch me.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy, Watchmen) feels that his character is, in some ways, a reflection of the audience. “JD is likable and will ask the questions the audience want the answers to. He is also flawed, drinks too much and has problems with the system.” Throughout the panel many comments were made about Morgan’s sexiness, and the great chemistry he and Halle had. Extant certainly knows what it is doing when it comes to making a TV show (even) hotter.

Another addition to this season’s cast is none other than the Governor himself, David Morrissey. Morrissey (The Walking Dead) plays Tobias Shepherd, the head of the Global Security Commission. Shepherd finds himself at odds with Molly, who is fighting to regain custody of her AI son. Shepherd’s goal is to keep the world safe from aliens and advancing AI, however the way to tries to do it is not effective.
