Altair is a character with much more depth than his hidden blade stabbing persona displays. This is due the extreme care taken by Assassin’s Creed: Revelations voice actor Cas Anvar.

Sitting in the noisy Hilton by the San Diego Comic-Con bay, Anvar spoke exclusively with Hypable.com about the layers he adds to one of his most famous digital works.

“There’s a sense of devotion a spirituality, a focus, and a drive to him that is a unique trait amongst our leading men” Anvar explained of Altair’s character in comparison to other Assassin’s Creed characters.

This type of immersion is unknown to most voice actors, as they are normally given dialogue out of context to read. Along with that, they often aren’t allowed to know what the lines they are reading are for.

This Call of Duty voice actor differs from the rest because he always makes sure to find out his motivations in scenes. He recalls his days playing Shakespeare in the Park, which taught him to use the “wiggle of his pinky” to manipulate the audience.

Anvar also had a lot of interesting things to say about the way fame in the video game voice acting industry works. “Video game actors are usually not recognized visually, because we are known by our voices,” said Anvar. And according to him, that’s where motion capture technology will change things.

Anvar cited games like Beyond: Two Souls as revolutionizing the way video game actors are recognized for their work. “There are going to be video game celebrities arise in the next five years,” predicts Anvar.

Seeing as his foretelling skills seemed up to par, we couldn’t help but ask: will Altair return in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag under Anvar’s voice acting? Although he hasn’t heard anything yet, Anvar said that in the video game industry, four months isn’t anywhere near the deadline for final plot decisions.
