At last night’s Golden Globe Awards, Ewan McGregor took a few moments to discuss his interest in playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again.

McGregor took home a Golden Globe last night for his performance in Fargo, but the press backstage couldn’t help but ask the actor how he felt about reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a future Star Wars film. The actor said “There’s a lot of talk, and I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know anything more than you do.”

Of course, McGregor hasn’t been shy about his interest in playing Obi-Wan again. When the actor was asked to reprise the role briefly for a line in The Force Awakens, fans became reinvigorated about an Obi-Wan standalone film (much like 2018’s Han Solo film, Solo).

Rumors have been swirling for some time about an Obi-Wan film. McGregor was spotted working out while rocking a beard, and people called it Jedi training. Other reports have gone as far as to claim a movie has already been greenlight, and will have a 2019 release date.

Of course, all of those reports are uncomfirmed, so while it seems likely Disney has to at least be thinking a bit about an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film given fan interest, we have no evidence that they are doing anything beyond thinking. Still, knowing McGregor is happy to reprise the role has got us feeling at least a bit hopeful!

Adding McGregor to the new Star Wars universe seems like a good move. The actor has been very complimentary about the new Star Wars franchise, even the hotly debated film, The Last Jedi. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “I saw the new one over Christmas and I thought it was really, really beautiful.”

We can only hope that McGregor soon gets to star in his own, really, really beautiful Star Wars film!
