Ender’s Game actor Asa Butterfield, who will play the protagonist in the upcoming film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s classsic Sci-Fi novel, revealed details about filming in a recent interview.

In a recent interview with Collider.com about the film, scheduled for release on November 1 of this year, Butterfield revealed details about filming, life on set, as well as what it was like to work with director Gavin Hood.

Butterfield, whose acting credits include Hugo, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, and The Wolfman, said that director and screenwriter Gavin Hood was “always very enthusiastic” while on set for Ender’s Game, and that he has a very active and involved style of directing. Life on set was active and fun, says Butterfield, who was one of many young actors who formed camaraderie on set through the production of the film.

We’re given a hint at what we might be able to expect for the pace of the movie. He tells the interviewer that there was a significant amount of physical training to prepare much of the cast for the physical activities that would be required of them during filming including wire work, which is undoubtedly being used to simulate the zero-gravity environment of the infamous Battle Room.

Butterfield said that he hadn’t read Ender’s Game before the casting call for the movie adaptation of the novel, but says that he finds it easier to play a character when he has source material to form the foundation of their personality. He said that much time had been spent communicating with Hood, who wrote the screenplay in addition to directing the film, through skype to share conversation about the character in order to develop an Ender that would meet with the creative needs of the film.
