Emma Watson is joining the cast of an upcoming adaptation of another timeless children’s classic tale!

According to Variety, Emma Watson could be the latest big name in Hollywood to join Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of Little Women.

Gerwig’s adaptation of the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott already has some pretty big names attached to star in it. Currently, the film boasts a cast that includes the likes of Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, and Lady Bird alumni Saoirse Ronan and Timothy Chalamet.

When news first broke that Gerwig was working on a Little Women adaptation, it was also reported that Emma Stone would be joining the project. Now, it’s being reported that the La La Land actress has had to back out of the project due to prior obligations for Fox Searchlight’s The Favourite.

With The Favourite expected to be a big award show season contender, and production on Gerwig’s film set to start next month, there’s no way Stone would have been able to take on both projects.

Stone’s departure however, paved the way for Watson to join the star-studded cast. The Harry Potter alum will be taking over the role originally intended for Stone.

Fans hoping for more details on which actress will assume the role of which March sister will have to wait a bit longer for extra casting details to surface.

Though it sounds as though Sony has pretty much narrowed in on all of its central cast, there’s still no information with regards to who everyone will be playing.

For now, we’ll be joining other fans of Little Women in theorizing which actress is best suited for which sister.

And of course, we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more details as the film moves further and further into production!
