The team behind The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Welcome to Sanditon has announced their next project – a web series adaptation of another Austen novel. This time Emma will be in the spotlight.

Emma Approved will be the not-quite sequel to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and spinoff Welcome to Sanditon. The series will launch in the fall.

According to Tubefilter, the new series will once again be filmed in a vlog format.

In Emma Approved, Emma will be an entrepreneur who also claims to be an excellent matchmaker. As those who have read Austen’s novel will know, things do not always work out the way Emma may have wanted.

We expect a high transmedia presence from this show, and possibly the integration of the Theatrics platform that was utilised during Welcome to Sanditon.

When we spoke to Bernie Su prior to the premiere of Welcome to Sanditon, we asked if the second major book adaptation would be in the same universe as the Pride and Prejudice and Sanditon adaptations.

Yes, that is planned. The only way at the point that the second series is not in the same universe is if one of the actors plays a vital role in the second series as a different character, but I don’t see that happening.

If that is still the case, there is the potential for the creative team to bring back popular characters from the past series. The subtitle of Emma’s website is “Love, Lifestyle, Fashion, Emma”. This may remind fans of another in-universe character with a passion for fashion. Could we see Laura Spencer reprising her role as Jane Bennet?

Lizzie Bennet Diaries showrunner Bernie Su made the Emma Approved announcement at Vidcon, an online video convention run by his co-creator, Hank Green.
