Welcome to Sanditon has just wrapped, and now all attention turns to Emma Approved, and the possibility of a crossover between this Austen web series adaptation and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.

When The Lizzie Bennet Diaries team announced that their next project would be a web series adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, most fans asked the same question. Will it be in the same universe as their previous Austen adaptations, and could we see cameos from some familiar faces?

Lizzie Bennet Diaries showrunner Bernie Su recently addressed this issue on his Tumblr.

In response to questions about the possibility of a crossover, Su said “Emma Approved is intended to exist in the same universe as LBD and WTS. This doesn’t necessarily mean anyone will actually cross over. It just means that they one day could.”

However, eagle-eyed fans may already have spotted a few connections between Emma Approved and the previous two series.

The Emma Approved YouTube channel only features one other channel, and is it none other than Pemberley Digital, which hosted Lizzie Bennet Diaries spinoff Welcome to Sanditon.

That doesn’t mean anything, some fans will say. However, the transmedia Twitter account for Emma Approved protagonist Emma Woodhouse also shows that Woodhouse is following Gigi Darcy, William Darcy, and Pemberley Digital.

We assume this means Emma will be hosting a vlog that is in some way sponsored by Pemberley Digital.

Fans might also be interested in a certain Alex Knightley, who Emma is also following on Twitter.

Su also took the time to clear up one other common fan theory – Emma Woodhouse will not be Gigi Darcy.

He confirmed that discussions were had, but in the end they decided to keep the two characters separate, saying “They are both awesome characters but are VERY different people.”

Emma Approved does not have a confirmed premiere date, but is scheduled for release in the fall.
