British actress Emily Blunt has long been a fan favorite for the lead role in Captain Marvel, and yet it appears Marvel hasn’t even asked her to audition.

Emily Blunt’s new movie Sicario was screened at TIFF this weekend, and naturally, reporters couldn’t stay away from the hot rumor that the British actress might play Captain Marvel in the MCU’s first female-led superhero movie.

Blunt is one of the badass actresses (another fan fave is Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff) who has reportedly been in contention for the role, mainly due to her strong performance in The Edge of Tomorrow.

Yet Blunt now claims that there is absolutely zero truth to those rumors, making it clear that she probably won’t land the role: Even though Captain Marvel is still three years away, Marvel has likely reached out to all potential actresses for the lead by now.

Blunt tells MTV, “I’ve not had a phone call about it. Not one whisper of Captain Marvel has come my way. Promise.”

In fact, she confesses, “I don’t even know who Captain Marvel is!”

We suppose that’s bad news for fans who were hoping to see Emily Blunt in the role.

However, last week, a new rumor broke claiming that Marvel is currently eyeing Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson to be their new headline heroine, a choice which the fandom seems generally positive about.

The Swedish actress stunned with her uncompromising, ruthless performance as Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation, and previously led the acclaimed miniseries The White Queen on Starz.

Are you disappointed that Emily Blunt probably won’t play Captain Marvel?

Sicario hits theaters on October 2, 2015.
