Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has been cast as Sarah Connor in Paramount Pictures’ Terminator reboot.

Emilia Clarke will be playing Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis. The role made popular by Linda Hamilton in 1984’s The Terminator. Clarke is well known as Daenerys Targaryen in the incredibly popular Game of Thrones series on HBO.

She’ll now be playing one of the most iconic female roles in a franchise that’s been going for 30 years. Deadline reports that the storyline involves “a trip into the future.” Emilia will be teaming up again with Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor, who recently directed Thor: The Dark World.

Actor Jason Clarke is in negotiations to play her son, John Connor, while it’s being reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger may be back in the robot-role that shot him to fame in the mid ’80s.

Emilia Clarke beat out many actresses for the role, and it’s said that it came down to her and Brie Larson. Each actress tested for the role with producers David Ellison and Megan Ellison. Paramount is the studio behind the Terminator reboot, and it has a release date set for July, 2015.

We’ll be interested to see how this film will be fleshed out, as it’s been rebooted quite a few times. The last Terminator film starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington when it hit theaters back in 2009. There were plans to continue the story, but now it seems the studio is moving forward with the reboot.

Emilia has been incredible on Game of Thrones so we’re definitely excited to see what she can do as the strong willed Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis.
