Baz Luhrmann is bringing his flashy style to the story of Elvis Presley’s life, and here are the actors in the running to play Presley.

Elvis Presley is an iconic staple of the rock and roll era, and his flashy, groundbreaking style is a perfect match for Baz Luhrmann. Luhrmann is working to bring a biopic of the famous musician to the big screen, but the big question was who would be replicating Presley’s iconic hip twists?

The Hollywood Reporter has the short list of the actors in the running, and they might surprise you. Austin Butler, Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harry Styles, and Miles Teller are reportedly leading the pack to play Elvis Presley. THR explains that Elgort, Teller, and Taylor-Johnson all had a screen test for Luhrmann last week and Styles and Butler have also tested for the filmmaker.

There isn’t yet word on when the casting decision will be made. Whoever is picked to play the rock and roll icon will be joining Tom Hanks who has already been cast to play Col. Tom Parker, Presley’s manager who was infamously controlling over Presley’s life.

This biopic is set to focus on Presley’s rise to fame and the years he spent at the peak of his career. Additionally, the film will focus a great deal on Presley’s relationship with Parker.

Rock and roll biopics have been having quite a moment lately with Freddie Mercury’s (slightly altered) story was brought to the big screen in Bohemian Rhapsody, and Elton John’s rise to fame was told in the eye-catching biopic Rocketman.

The Elton John biopic and the unique style in which his story was told made fans fall in love with the story, and it was received far better than Bohemian Rhapsody. Of course, one could argue that since Elton John himself was able to take part in the film’s development, the story rang a bit truer than Mercury’s. Since Presley passed away decades ago, we will see if Baz Luhrmann’s story rings true to the musician’s life, or if it feels over-fictionalized.

Regardless, we’re still really excited to see who Luhrmann ends up selecting to play the iconic singer, and we can’t wait to see this one hit the big screen. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Presley or new to his music, this film, like other Luhrmann movies, is bound to be a captivating one.
