Sad news today on Sesame Street, but probably comforting to kids. Those who tuned into New York public radio station WNYC this morning heard everyone’s favorite Sesame character Elmo speaking to kids about Hurricane Sandy.

Elmo, voiced by Kevin Clash, told listeners that he and his mom stocked up on peanut butter and canned tuna. They survived, but Big Bird’s nest was ruined. “We got to help put Big Bird’s nest back together again,” he told everyone. Elmo also warned the audience to “be careful out there.” He was joined by Dr. Rosemarie Truglio of the Sesame Street Education and Research Department.

Elmo fielded a couple of questions from kids. One asked if they’d be able to go to school on Thursday. Another wondered what questions Elmo asked his mommy and daddy.

Good on Elmo for comforting the kids!
