Ellie Goulding’s new song for the Divergent soundtrack titled “Beating Heart” has been released online.

The track is an entirely new song by Goulding and had a perfect fit in the film, according to director Neil Burger. “In the last scene of the movie, Tris has just experienced multiple tragedies, even as she triumphs (for the moment) over her enemies,” Burger told Entertainment Weekly. “Ellie wrote ‘Beating Heart’ and we knew it’d be perfect for the end of the movie. Her lyrics almost merge with Tris’ voice-over and her music lets the movie soar above the tragedy. The sadness is still there but so is the transcendence. It’s a fantastic song.”

Goulding’s new song isn’t her only contribution to Divergent. She lent a couple of her previously released songs to the soundtrack, and her voice will be scattered throughout the film with the score. “I basically got to go into the studio, and just be put in front of the microphone for a few hours and sing whatever I wanted to sing,” she said in an interview on television last month. “Not even words, noises and sounds, too. I listened to a lot of Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard.”

The Divergent soundtrack will be released Tuesday, March 11. Other artists who made contributions include Zedd (listen to his song), Snow Patrol, and Skrillex. See a complete list in our previous story.

The film will open in theaters ten days later on Friday, March 21.
