Fresh off Pitch Perfect 2, Elizabeth Banks has set her sights on Victoria Aveyard’s fantasy epic Red Queen.

Elizabeth Banks has been very candid about the fact that, as a pretty, petite blonde actress in Hollywood, she’s found herself creatively pigeonholed.

She’s found the best possible way to combat the stereotypes, however, by branching out and proving how much she’s capable of.

Banks’ directorial debut, Pitch Perfect 2, was an astounding success, and certainly a great springboard for other projects.

And according to The Hollywood Reporter, her next venture as a director may very well be Universal’s adaptation of the YA fantasy novel Red Queen.

The novel, published earlier this year, tells the story of 17-year-old Mare Barrow, a common girl who is drawn into the dangerous intrigue of the king’s palace when her latent magic awakens.

In a world divided by the color of your blood, an ordinary red-blooded girl like Mare shouldn’t have the powers she does.

Soon, she finds herself among the silver-blooded nobility, torn between the red rebellion, and the friends she makes in the castle.

Victoria Aveyard’s debut novel has been likened to popular YA books with similar themes like The Selection and Graceling.

Gennifer Hutchison is writing the screenplay for the Universal adaptation, with Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, JC Spink and Pouya Shahbazian producing.
