CBS’s fall schedule was not kind to Elementary fans. Here are a few tricks and tips to get you through the five month hiatus!

The NFL has a hold over CBS and money needs to be made. But at what cost? Well, pushing Elementary season 4 to November is one way to free up some room! The Big Bang Theory will once again move to Mondays for the opening weeks of its season, but for eight additional weeks, fans of another tall, socially inept human will just have to wait.

If you are a fan of Elementary you’ve been here before. In 2014 Thursday Night Football pushed Elementary to a late October release. In one way you are rewarded with less breaks between episodes. No winter hiatus, no prolonged spring break. But that is all in the future. How will you survive the next four five months?

Put your deductive skills to work

Watch the finale, “A Controlled Decent,” again. And then again. Once more for good measure. (It is one of the best episode of the series, it is worth it.) Take note of Sherlock’s shift from beginning to end. What changes about him? Have you seen these particular ticks before? It may even be helpful to make a motivational poster with one of Sherlock’s opening lines from the season 3 finale, “What is existence, but the absorption of and reaction to the data the universe presents?”

Casting call

One major character is coming to Elementary next season — Mr. Holmes. This is no ruse played off by Sherlock’s friend Alistair, nor does it seem to be an empty threat made by one of his father’s lackeys. Joan spoke with Sherlock’s father on the phone and repeated his decision to fly to new York and handle whatever happened himself. Who will play the billionaire with serious parenting issues? Let your IMDB searching begin!

A complete rewatch of the series

It’s easy to look at the finale and think you know it all. But do you really remember it all? Watch as Sherlock builds himself up from the t-shirt and odd vest pairings to the chiseled and buttoned up detective that season 3 offered week after week. Sherlock’s struggles with sobriety are not a recent development. Season 2 weaves a great narrative from Alistair’s death, through his one year anniversary, to Joan’s departure at the close. Before season 4 arrives, it may be worth your time to have all the facts!

If you watch three episodes per week, and head into the final week of the hiatus watching one per day, you will be right on time for the premiere! (Math!)

None of this is working, I need it now

So you accidentally rewatched the entire series in 53 sleepless hours. Understandable. You have your walls covered with print outs of British actors for the role of Mr. Holmes. Good work. And you can act out the finale in a dramatic one person performance. We’d like to see that. You even read the companion novel Elementary: The Ghost Line. Now what?

Get your mind off of Elementary for a bit!

The stars of the series have a catalogue of work that will reassert why they are so good at what they do. Here are a few to get your started.

Jonny Lee Miller: Emma (2009 BBC miniseries), Mansfield Park (1999), Plunkett & Macleane (1999), and Eli Stone for a great American accent.

Lucy Liu: Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003), Charlie’s Angels (2000), Ally McBeal, Southland, and for fun Kung Fu Panda as Viper.

We hope this helps!

Elementary season 4 returns November 2015.
