Check out two sneak peek clips from this week’s Elementary season 3, episode 14, “The Female of the Species,” directed by Lucy Liu!

Detective Bell is stepping up his deductive work in an all new clip from this week’s Elementary season 3, episode 14, “The Female of the Species.” Picking up after Andrew’s death, Joan is taking time away from casework and focusing on readying herself to return to work. Sherlock may not be great at verbally expressing concern for others, but he does make the gestures to prove his capacity for emotion.

In the first of two clips for this week’s episode, Sherlock is concerned that Joan may not be processing Andrew’s death as well as she thinks.

The last time we can recall Sherlock and Detective Bell working alone for an extended period of time was on a case involving Chinese gambling way back in season 1. In season 2, the two investigators had a falling out after Sherlock’s lack of decorum cost a man his job and Bell stepped in front of the bullet that was heading for Sherlock. All that is in the past as Sherlock enlists Detective Bell’s help to solve a case involving the kidnapping of two zebras from a city zoo.

Putting the men to work not only gives Joan time to herself, but it also gives Lucy Liu the ability to direct. “The Female of the Species” will mark Liu’s second time behind the camera for the series. The first was back in season 2, episode 22, “Paint it Black.”

The zebras are not the only females that are central to a case this week. Elana March, the drug criminal Watson put behind bars at the start of the season, comes back into play as a major suspect in Andrew’s death.

Watch Elementary season 3, episode 14, “The Female of the Species,” Thursday, February 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
