Elementary came to New York Comic-Con this weekend, and its fans were in for quite a treat.

The panel was made up of Lucy Liu (Watson), Jonny Lee Miller (Sherlock), Ophelia Lovibond (Kitty), and Producer John Polson.

First things first — we got to see the entire premiere episode of Elementary season 3, and we don’t think fans are going to be disappointed in the slightest. While we can’t tell you everything that happened in the episode (and boy was it a good one!), we did get to see Watson dealing with the fallout of everything that happened in the season 2 finale. Watson is, understandably, very angry with Sherlock, and not just because of how long he’s been away.

It seems Sherlock has a new protege named Kitty Winter. We meet her in the first episode, and although she isn’t likeable right from the get-go, the panel did say that a lot of things happened to her to make Sherlock pick her as his next student.

And if you’re thinking there will probably be tension between Joan and Kitty, you’re absolutely right. It’s emotional for Watson to be replaced, but Liu did say there’s a possibility for Watson to also take Kitty under her wing and help mentor her alongside Sherlock. We’ll just have to wait and see if that’ll last.

Lovibond, meanwhile, talked about Kitty, saying, “She certainly shakes up that dynamic,” talking of Sherlock and Watson’s relationship. She also said that Kitty’s competition with Joan will affect her investigative abilities. It was apparent in the first episode that Kitty might have her own agenda.

Polson had some interesting things to say as well, stating that they’re always looking to bring Natalie Dormer back as Moriarty, and the same goes for Sherlock’s brother Mycroft. He teased some “very cool stuff” coming up this season, and even told us we will once again be seeing Clyde the turtle! (The audience gave a collective cheer about that.)

Wrapping up the panel, Liu did say there will always be pits and valleys in Watson’s relationship with Sherlock, but one of the reasons why she loves Elementary and her character so much is that the show allows the characters to grow on their own, together, and even with other people.
