Another hit young adult novel is soon to be adapted as Dreamworks has just picked up the right’s for the Eleanor & Park movie.

According to EW, DreamWorks has picked up the cinematic rights to Eleanor & Park, Rainbow Rowell’s hit novel.

“Every girl who has read it says, ‘That was me in high school, or that was me in 7th grade,’” Holly Bario, DreamWorks president of production, said in a statement. “It reminded all of us of our own sort of awkwardness, or family dysfunction.”

DreamWorks noted that part of the reason they were drawn to the novel was because it has such relatable characters. “It’s not the typical story where the ugly duckling is in love with the hot guy. They’re both trying to find their way. They’re both outcasts.”

The author has also been hired to write the screenplay, so you know it’s going to be a script she’s happy with.

Rowell is clearly very excited about the news, as you would expect. She’s currently letting her Twitter followers know just how big of a deal this is for her:

If you’ve yet to read the novel, here’s how Amazon describes it:

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits — smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love — and just how hard it pulled you under.

Eleanor & Parks spent 12 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List.
