The Elder Scrolls universe has always seemed suited to an MMO, and the existence of The Elder Scrolls Online might well have been the worst kept secret in gaming. Still, an official reveal has been a long time coming; with the average development time of an MMO being around five years, Zenimax Online Studios (a separate part of Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax) might have been working on TES:O since 2008.
