Acclaimed director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) has been tapped to direct Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) in the remake of The Night Stalker for Disney, reports Deadline.

Deadline reports:

The film took root at the studio last summer, borne out of Depp and Dembrowski’s fond memories of the original 70s movie and series that starred Darren McGavin. He covered crime for a tabloid and his cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. Of course, neither his editor nor anyone else would believe him or allow him to run what seemed like outrageous stories. But Kolchak would put himself in grave danger each episode.

Now Disney has tapped Edgar Wright to helm the project, as Wright also has an Ant-Man feature film set up at the studio. While Depp is not officially signed on to star, he is very invested in the project, and it would seem that Wright’s very specific and unique visual style would work well with Depp’s acting style.

Depp next is tapped to star in The Lone Ranger at Disney with Gore Verbinski, so it is unclear when production will begin on the project. Are you interested in seeing this one?
