Eddie Murphy has revealed plans to return to Saturday Night Live after a 30-year absence.

Although comedian Eddie Murphy hasn’t been on SNL since 1984, we all remember him as one of the key performers on the show.

Since joining the show in 1981 at the age of 19, Murphy delivered classic, timeless sketches like “White Like Me” and “Mister Robertson’s Neighborhood.”

When speaking to News One, Murphy dropped the exciting news: “They’re actually having a 40th anniversary I think in two weeks. I’m going to that, and that’ll be the first time I’ve been back since I left.”

Murphy says that he hasn’t been on since 1984 because the timing never worked out. But for the upcoming 40-year anniversary of Saturday Night Live, the 53-year-old actor will finally return!

Speaking about SNL‘s 40-year anniversary special, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said last year:

Saturday Night Live is an institution unlike anything else in television history […] The many brilliant ‘Not Ready for Primetime Players’ over the years is a who’s who of film and television comedy for the last two generations. This special is just one of the many ways we plan to celebrate ‘SNL’s historic 40th season next year.”

The three-hour 40th anniversary special will air on Feb. 15, 2015.
