The E3 2013 Nintendo Direct yielded many games in the Mario franchise, amongst other exciting first party titles.

Nintendo has a knack for being able to find a good balance between what their hardcore games and what their casual gamers want. This E3 2013 Nintendo Direct proved that they still have a lot of kick left.

The first games showed off were Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, with a new trailer and a worldwide release of October 12.

A new Pokémon type was also revealed: Fairy type – which is super effective against dragon types. Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, Marill and Sylveon will be fairy types.

The last game announced was Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Mega Man and the Villager (from Animal Crossing) are new characters.

A new Donkey Kong game was unveiled: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The island has been overrun with Vikings, and Donkey Kong has to set off to other islands and reclaim his own.

Bayonetta 2, the sequel to the acclaimed fighting game, had a new trailer aired. The game will launch in 2014 on the Wii U.

A montage of in-game footage from Super Mario 3D World was shown, to be released in December 2013 on the 3DS.

The 1080p Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker also got a new trailer.

We saw a great deal of footage for Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U, which includes anti-gravity, allowing for even crazier racetracks. The game will launch in Spring 2014.

Wii Party U‘s release date has been pushed back from the expected summer release to later this year. Wii Fit U was also pushed back to winter to add more features.
