E3 2013 has a lot of promise, but which games will rise above the rest?

Hot ticket items and flops flood the busy floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo each year in Los Angeles, California. The E3 2013 convention takes place between Monday, June 11 to Wednesday, June 13.

Reveals such as details of new consoles and iterations in first party games for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft will be the highlights of E3 2013. Other gaming companies, such as Ubisoft, EA, Capcom, and Square Enix, will also have booths for their best upcoming games.

Out of all of the game reveals, how can you be sure that you know which ones to look out for? That’s where Hypable comes into play.

From all of the hype building up to big reveals, like Super Smash Bros. 4 and Infamous: Second Son, we were able to pick through what promises to be the best on the show floor.

While most gaming companies choose this time to show off their best and brightest games, Nintendo is choosing to stand out from the crowd by not holding a large press conference at E3 2013. However, they are holding two separate online streams to make up for the time they aren’t taking advantage of during the convention. One of them is for general Nintendo/Wii U games, and the other is for Pokémon X and Y, specifically.

‘Kingdom Hearts’

A “new” Kingdom Hearts game is coming out this September! That is, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix is new to you if you’ve never played the first PlayStation game, Chain of Memories, and 358/2 Days.

Let’s face it, Square Enix, it’s time to formally announce Kingdom Hearts III. It has been hinted at a lot (we’re looking at you, Dream Drop Distance credits), but it still has yet to be confirmed. And when is there a better time to release info about one of the most anticipated games of the decade than at the biggest video game convention of the year?

Our bets are on the formal announcement of Kingdom Hearts III happening next week.

‘Pokemon X’ and ‘Y’

The next Pokémon generation caused quite a stir back when it was announced in January. Since then, the biggest news was that of a new Eeveelution named Sylveon, and a new Gen VI form for Mewtwo.

News has been somewhat slow since then, with weekly Pokémon Smash TV episodes in Japan revealing tidbits of information here and there. The handheld games release worldwide this October, making the “E3” Nintendo Direct a big opportunity for a boatload of Gen VI info. Thankfully, there will be a special Pokémon X/Y broadcast this up and coming Tuesday at 9 PM ET.

‘Super Smash Bros. 4’

Few games raise our pulse like the Super Smash Bros. series. The high flying action, the battle customization, and the unexpected turns any fight can take at the drop of a dime make this series evergreen.

While this all may seem like the description of any given decent fighting game, what separates the Smash series from any other are the recognizable characters. Epic showdowns between characters like Link and Mario are fun, but we want a reveal of a really out there character in the currently untitled (but confirmed) Super Smash Bros. 4.

As for the playable characters in Super Smash Bros. 4, why not add in another classic pixley character, ala Mr. Game & Watch? In that vein, the Balloon Fighters seem to have strong potential of being added. We could go on forever about the characters we want to add to the sequel’s fighting roster.

Regardless of what footage Nintendo shows off during their Tuesday broadcast, it will surely have at least one or two amazing bombshells.

Hypable’s hottest games of E3 2013 predictions

What else excites us about next week’s E3 2013?

E3 2013 has a lot of promise, but which games will rise above the rest?

Hot ticket items and flops flood the busy floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo each year in Los Angeles, California.

Reveals such as new consoles and iterations in first party games for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft tend to be the highlight of each E3. Other gaming companies, such as Ubisoft, EA, Capcom, and Square Enix, have booths for their upcoming games also.

‘Dragon Age III: Inquisition’

We know very little about the next instalment in the fantasy RPG franchise Dragon Age. All we’ve been given is a subtitle, Inquisition, and a promise of a new engine, more customisation, more meaningful choices, and a move towards open world gameplay.

E3 2013 will give us our first solid information about Dragon Age 3, and hopefully a release window and a trailer. Bioware are keen to learn from the mistakes that were made with Dragon Age 2, and with Inquisition already in development for three years, it seems like the game will not be rushed at the very least.

‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final game in CD Projekt Red’s trilogy of mature RPGs. It’s a series of games that progressed substantially from the first to the second instalment, and it looks as if a similar leap will be made to the third entry. For the first time in the Witcher trilogy, Geralt of Rivia will be able to explore a seamless open world.

CD Projekt Red claim that a new engine will enable them to weave together the non-linear story arcs that The Witcher series is famed for with the new open world. If Wild Hunt can attain the perfect blend between these two elements, it should definitely cause a stir at E3 2013.

‘Watch Dogs’

One of the biggest surprises at last year’s E3 was Watch Dogs a slickly-presented third person shooter with a twist – hacking is at the core of the game. Players can take control of various different devices (traffic lights, phones, streetlights) to manipulate an alternate reality version of Chicago.

At E3 2013, Ubisoft will be looking to Watch Dogs to lead its foray into next-gen gaming. We hope that any new footage we see will build on this promising start, as there truly is the potential for some very interesting new gameplay opportunities.

Now you pick!

Which E3 2013 game are you most excited about that we might’ve not talked about?
