What do Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, and James D’Arcy have in common? They are all set to star in Christopher Nolan’s WWII-era film Dunkirk. Watch the first trailer now!

When the cast for Nolan’s Dunkirk was announced, there was a lot of head scratching and a lot of excitement. That excitement may have dwindled as news of the film slowed down, but get ready for it to pick back up again as the first (teaser) trailer for the film has now been released.

As with any teaser trailer, this one doesn’t really show much, but it’s surprisingly adept at hooking you from the moment the clock starts ticking right until it cuts to black. It might not give away any specific plot details, but it certainly leaves you wanting more.

In the trailer, we see an expansive beach and rolling waves. Seen throughout are countless soldiers, both alive and dead, with the text, “At the point of crisis, at the point of annihilation, survival is victory.”

The end of the trailer provides us with a long shot of a group of soldiers, one of them looking up at the sound of a noise from above. Soon, others begin to cast their gaze to the sky, and all at once they duck and cover, hoping that they’ll survive whatever is coming for them.

But we never see what happens next. What a way to end a trailer.

The synopsis for the film simply reads, “Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.”

The movie is due out on July 21, 2017.
