The first full-length trailer for Dunkirk, the World War II epic from Christopher Nolan, shows off the film’s sweeping cinematography.

Back in August, we got the first teaser trailer for Dunkirk, which didn’t really provide any footage, but certainly set the tone for the film nonetheless.

The synopsis for the film simply reads, “Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.”

With the simple message that “Hope is a weapon” and “Survival is victory,” the first trailer for Dunkirk shows hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers attempting to live through repeated attacks from the opposition, the Axis powers.

On its surface, the film may seem like a myriad of other WWII wartime movies, but Christopher Nolan’s style brings something unique and expansive to a film like this. The beach scenes alone are shot in a way that makes it feel like you’re right there on the sand next to your fellow soldier.

Dunkirk stars Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles, and James D’Arcy, among others. Nolan is, of course, known for such movies as the Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale, as well as Inception and Interstellar.

‘Dunkirk’ will hit theaters on July 21, 2017
