It was announced last night that How I Met Your Dad has found actor Drew Tarver, and its lead, Sally, has found her best friend, Todd.

The news that HIMYD filled another role was announced late last night via Deadline.
Tarver is, frankly, unknown in the television world. He is a member of the comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, which was founded in part by Amy Poehler. UCB boasts a slew of notable actors on their members list, such as Adam Pally, Ed Helms, Eliza Coupe and Aubrey Plaza just to name a few.

Despite his lack of television experience, Tarver clearly has improv, comedy and acting chops and seems well-qualified to tackle this role on a show that will have such high expectations. You can see some of his work on his extensive Funny or Die page. He can be found on twitter @DrewTarver.

Last month, Tarver preformed at CBS’ 9th annual Diversity Showcase as an LGBT participant, and, as Deadline puts it, “the network signed him in a talent holding deal, and he has now been cast as one of the leads.” This process is very common, as it has lead to many signed actors booking hundreds of shows with the help of this show case.

Todd, Tarver’s character, is described as “one of Sally’s closest friends from college” and her brother-in-law. He welcomes Sally into his home when her life falls apart after divorcing her husband. We learned just a few weeks ago that indie filmmaker/actress Greta Gerwig will helm the show and fill Sally’s shoes.

What do you think about Drew Tarver?

Is it nice that the creators are erring towards unknown actors as they did with How I Met Your Mother? Or would you prefer someone more recognizable?
