The cast of Downton Abbey series 5 are using a mishap with a water bottle to raise money for WaterAid.

Yesterday, a promotional photo for Downton Abbey series 5 depicted The Earl of Grantham and Lady Edith within their home. There was just one problem: A water bottle clearly not from the Edwardian era made it into the shot. You can see it over Edith’s left shoulder:

In response to this mishap which went viral on Friday, the Downton Abbey cast members took a group photo in which they’re holding water bottles as they make “oops!” faces:

More importantly, they’ve announced they’re raising money for WaterAid, a charity that looks to bring safe, clean water to the world.

Said an ITV spokesperson, “After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters. They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity – WaterAid.”

Those in the United Kingdom can donate £3 to WaterAid by texting WATER to 70007. The money will help “get clean water and safe toilets to the world’s poorest communities.”

You can also learn more about WaterAid by visiting their website, where you’ll have other opportunities to donate.

Downton Abbey series 5 premieres this September on ITV, and this January on PBS Masterpiece in the United States. Check out this year’s group photo and new stills!

How perfect of a response to the mistake was this?
