We’re still a few months away from the Downton Abbey series 6 premiere on PBS Masterpiece, but that hasn’t stopped them from releasing a first look at the show’s final outing.

In direct contrast to the emotionally charged trailer previously released by ITV ahead of Downton’s return on Sunday, this PBS first look at series 6 features more dialogue than anything else – but with very little context.

Set to the backdrop of the theme music, rather than Lauren Aquilina’s “Time to Say Goodbye,” we see all of the familiar faces we’ve come to expect from a series of Downton — and some notably absent ones too.

Check it out for yourself below, and try and glean as many clues as to the direction Downton’s final series might take.

Edith, as is usual, isn’t spared from Mary’s scorn, as she takes to London to presumably build a life for herself and Marigold. Thomas, unsurprisingly, has taken a shine to the newest footman — though he insists he just wants to be his friend. Could Thomas finally get lucky in love and find his own version of a “happily ever after,” despite all the odds being stacked against him?

We also see the Dowager Countess and Isobel coming to blows over the hospital — because what would a series of Downton be without their disagreements — and some tension between Carson and Mrs. Hughes as they navigate the uncharted waters of their relationship. Calling her Elsie at work? Off the table, unfortunately. But perhaps he’ll be persuaded by the time the series comes to a close.

Other more worrying clips we took note of were the auctioning of some paintings — could Downton be in financial trouble again? — and Lord Grantham musing over whether or not he needs an under butler. Are we heading for a downsizing of the staff? It would fit in with the decline of the aristocracy and their opulent lifestyles during that time, and some houses were even demolished as families failed to fund the upkeep of their homes.

We’re not sure we’d be able to handle the death of Downton itself. It may send us into further denial than Sybil and Matthew’s untimely demises.
