In Downton Abbey series 4, Rose will be romantically interested in a new character who’s putting a fresh face on the show’s cast.

According to a brief new comment from Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Neame, cousin Rose will take interest in Gary Carr’s new character Jack Ross.

“We know she’s a bit of a wild child, right? She’s a bit rebellious, and she likes the boyfriends,” Neame said.

Perhaps Jack and Rose will take interest in each other’s struggle to be accepted in “modern” society.

Jack Ross is a unique addition to Downton Abbey series 4 because he is the first recurring black character. He is described as a “jazz singer” who’s “charming and charismatic.” Producers have said previously that he’ll bring some surprise twists to the show.

Cousin Rose is played by Lily James who was up’d to a regular for series 4. This means she’ll be appearing on every episode and will have a clear character arc.

Downton Abbey series 4 premieres in the United States on January 5 and likely will hit United Kingdom airwaves sooner.

Earlier today we shared photos from the set where a party scene was being filmed. Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, and others appear in the outdoor scene on Downton’s grounds.

Thanks, EW.
