A clip from Downton Abbey season 4, episode 4 airing this Sunday on PBS depicts Mrs. Hughes having an important talk with Anna Bates.

In the scene, Anna continues to keep her distance from her husband after she was raped, because she doesn’t want him finding out. She’s afraid Bates will attack or murder the rapist, which could land him back in prison. Mrs. Hughes then confronts Anna about the issue and asks her to come up with something to tell Bates, because he doesn’t deserve to be left in the dark.

At the end of the scene, viewers will see a twist that may change how Bates handles the situation going forward.
