A new promo has been released for Downton Abbey‘s upcoming Christmas special, previewing love and turmoil among the Abbey’s inhabitants. Potential spoilers ahead.

SpoilerTV has shared a new, fairly long promo from Downton Abbey‘s series 3 Christmas special. Certainly there seems to be good times ahead… but we’re picking up on a few distinct threads of drama running through all the joy. Check out the preview right here:

Happy Anna and Bates! Weeping Branson! Carson’s playing with the baby! Thomas’s face is rearranged! Edith’s editor! Shirtless Branson! Shooting! (Oh, and Lady Rose.) Oh, the excitement!

At this point, it seems almost impossible to speculate specifically on what the Christmas special will bring; the sheer number of characters, multitudinous romantic entanglements, and split settings (the Crawleys will be in Scotland, while most of the staff remains at Downton) gives showrunner Julian Fellowes an unprecedented scale on which to play out the drama and delight which has become trademark of Downton Abbey. Still, we can’t wait to see what Fellowes has up his sleeve… especially as ITV has promised that, “This is one episode you will want to see live with millions of others – and best have the tissues ready.”

ITV’s official summary says:

The family receive a warm welcome at Duneagle Castle, visiting Rose and her parents in the Highlands. But there is no disguising the tensions between their hosts … Carson is determined to keep the servants back at Downton working hard, but with a country fair coming up, will some be tempted to push their luck? … Could romance be on the cards for Mrs Patmore?

Downton Abbey‘s third series Christmas special will air on ITV at 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 25.
