Get ready to reunite with the Crawleys— Downton Abbey 2 is officially a go!

Those who just can’t get enough of the Crawley family or their unforgettable Downton staff can rest easy knowing there’s more story on the way!

On Monday (April 19), Focus Features and Carnival Films announced that a a sequel to the Downton Abbey movie is officially in the works, and that it will be hitting theaters just in time for Christmas 2021.

All of the original principle cast is already on board to return to reprise their roles for Downton Abbey 2. In addition, the studios announced that actors Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West have all joined the cast of the movie sequel as well.

No specifics have been given as to who the newcomers will play, but we’re sure fans will be excited to find out how they’ll fit into the fold of things at a later date.

Also returning for Downton Abbey 2 is creator and Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes, who will once again pen the script for the movie. In addition, Fellowes will also produce along with Emmy Award winners Gareth Neame and Lize Trubridge. Meanwhile, the task of directing will fall to My Week with Marilyn vet, Simon Curtis.

“After a very challenging year with so many us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of Downton Abbey,” said Neame with regards to today’s exciting news.

Added Focus Features chairman, Peter Kujawski: “There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”

Downton Abbey 2 is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
